CIG Community Biodiversity Use Assessments now online |
|
One of Newmont Ghana’s major partners is the well-respected environmental and scientific group, Conservation International Ghana (CIG). Over the last few years, CIG has developed a formal system for involving rural communities in assessing the biodiversity and biodiversity values for their physical environments. Newmont Ghana was pleased to offer its Ahafo and Akyem sites to CIG as testing grounds for this system. You can access here CIG’s publications describing this participatory methodology and the accounts of its application at Ahafo and Akyem. We are grateful to CIG and particularly its former Country Director, Mr. Okyeame Ampadu-Agyei for this work and for allowing us to include it on our web site. You can obtain hard copies from CIG in Accra or from Newmont Ghana.
